My Process

Mono print palette stencils tools

Mono printing is a form of printing that offers both control and magic in the making! Elements of precision and surprise abound!

In the case of mono printing pigment, ink is applied to the plate in a variety of ways. Each new application of pigment also adds layers to the print.

A mono print is the accumulation of several layers on one sheet of paper thus “mono” meaning one final image on one piece of paper!

Plexiglass Plate

A plexiglass plate is used to place the printing ink on.

Ink Palette Tools

Paintbrushes, inking brayers (rollers), ink knives are all used to apply ink on the plexiglass sheet.

Plexiglass Plate

Sometimes pigment is removed from the plate to create a different effect. This is the process of removing ink from the plexiglass plate before printing with Q-Tips® and cloth.

Print Press Bed

Each run through the printing press adds to the final print. Amounts of printing through the printing press create depth, composition and color variation among other qualities.

This is the print press bed.

Print Press Bed Wheel

Paper is placed over the plexiglass plate before the plate is moved through a printing press.

This is the print press bed wheel.

Print Layering

Three phases of layering as a print progresses. Three individual prints that show gradual intensity of value and color change.
